Kimpton launches on Y Combinator: Cursor for portfolio managers

Today we launched on Y Combinator. Kimpton is Cursor for portfolio managers: an AI-native terminal where agents research the market and propose trades, grounded in your firm's own data.

AI can't trade. It can research at 100x.

We built Kimpton because of a simple observation. Large language models are consensus machines, sycophantic by nature, and they lack the edge a portfolio manager spends a career developing. AI can't trade. But it can research at roughly 100 times the efficiency of an investment analyst, and that is the part of the job that eats your day.

Kimpton automates the research layer. It ingests firm-wide data and generates trade recommendations tailored to your book. Then, instead of asking you to trust it, it argues with you. Adversarial Review uses Socratic questioning to pressure-test a thesis so you reach your own conclusion rather than inheriting the model's.

Grounded in institutional data

  • Institutional data sources including FactSet, Massive, and Tiingo
  • Real-time global market data across equities, ETFs, and indices
  • SEC filings and earnings transcripts, sourced and cited
  • Custom dashboards, institutional reports, and visualizations

Built by people who ran the fund

We are former Goldman Sachs and Vistra Energy engineers. In 2021, at 22 and 21 years old, we left to start a quantitative hedge fund, raised $10M from a family office, and scaled to a $35M peak AUM. Every research tool we couldn't buy, we built. Kimpton is that internal stack, opened to the rest of the buy side.

Today, Kimpton is used by portfolio managers overseeing billions of dollars in assets, for exposure monitoring, thesis drift analysis, and coordinating research across a team.

How you can help

We're looking for introductions to asset managers at hedge funds, family offices, mutual funds, and ETF managers. If that's you or someone you know, reach us at info@kimpton.ai.
